Reading Data

Now that your stromleser.one is set up, we'll show you how to read and interpret your consumption data in the app.

Main View

When you select your device in the app, you'll see the main view with the most important information at a glance.

Current Power

The large number at the top

This is your current power consumption in watts (W).

  • Positive value (e.g., 850 W): You're currently drawing electricity from the grid
  • Negative value (e.g., -1200 W): You're feeding electricity into the grid (only with PV systems)
  • 0 W or very small: Minimal standby consumption
What Does This Mean?
  • 0-100 W: Standby consumption (refrigerator, router, etc.)
  • 100-500 W: Normal base load (lights, TV, laptop)
  • 500-2000 W: Multiple devices or one large appliance (kettle, oven)
  • 2000+ W: Multiple large appliances simultaneously

Meter Reading

The cumulative number

This is the current reading of your electricity meter in kilowatt-hours (kWh).

  • Shows total consumption since installation/commissioning of meter
  • Corresponds to value on display of your physical meter
  • For bidirectional meters: Separate values for consumption and feed-in

Example:

Consumption: 12,345.6 kWh
Feed-in: 8,234.1 kWh (only with PV)

Daily Consumption

Consumption since midnight

Shows how much electricity you've consumed today.

  • Resets daily at midnight
  • Displayed in kWh
  • If tariffs configured: Also costs in euros

Example:

Today: 12.5 kWh (€4.06)

Monthly Consumption

Consumption in current month

Shows cumulative consumption of current calendar month.

  • Resets on 1st of month
  • Helps with budget planning
  • With projection for entire month

Example:

This month: 285 kWh (€92.63)
Projection: ~380 kWh (~€123)

Time Series and Charts

Tap on a chart or go to "History" to see detailed time series.

Hourly View

Last 24 hours

  • Bar chart with hourly values
  • Shows consumption peaks
  • Ideal for recognizing daily routines

What can you recognize?

  • Night: Low base load consumption (refrigerator, standby)
  • Morning: Peaks from coffee, breakfast
  • Daytime: Fluctuating consumption
  • Evening: Highest consumption (cooking, TV, etc.)

Daily View

Last 7-30 days

  • Bar chart with daily values
  • Comparison of weekdays
  • Recognize trends

What can you recognize?

  • Weekends vs. weekdays
  • Particularly consumption-intensive days
  • Trends (rising/falling)

Monthly View

Last 12 months

  • Bar chart with monthly values
  • Seasonal fluctuations
  • Annual comparisons

What can you recognize?

  • Winter: Higher consumption (lighting, heating pump)
  • Summer: Lower consumption
  • Annual trends

PV-Specific Views

If you have a photovoltaic system, you'll see additional information:

Feed-in vs. Consumption

Two values instead of one

  • Consumption (green): Electricity from grid
  • Feed-in (blue): Electricity to grid

Self-Sufficiency Rate

How much self-generated electricity are you using?

Shows how much of your consumption is covered by your own PV production.

  • 0%: No self-consumption (everything from grid)
  • 50%: Half self-generated, half grid consumption
  • 100%: Completely self-sufficient (only possible with battery storage)

Example:

Self-sufficiency today: 65%
Self-consumption: 8.5 kWh
Grid consumption: 4.5 kWh
Feed-in: 12.3 kWh

Feed-in Compensation

Your Revenue

If you configured feed-in compensation in Tariff Parameters:

  • Revenue per day
  • Revenue per month
  • Projection for year

Example:

Feed-in today: 15.2 kWh
Revenue: €1.25
Revenue this month: €28.40

Understanding Costs

If you configured tariffs, the app also shows costs.

Daily Costs

What does electricity cost me today?

  • Calculated from consumption and energy price
  • Plus proportional basic charge (basic charge/365)
  • For HT/NT: Separate calculation

Example:

Consumption: 12.5 kWh × €0.325/kWh = €4.06
Basic charge: €9.90 / 30 days = €0.33
Total today: €4.39

Monthly Costs

What does electricity cost me this month?

  • Sum of all daily costs
  • Plus basic charge
  • Projection to end of month

Example:

Consumption: 285 kWh × €0.325/kWh = €92.63
Basic charge: €9.90
Total: €102.53
Projection: ~€137

Practical Tips

Identifying Power Guzzlers

This is how to find devices with high consumption:

  1. Determine Baseline

    • Look at current power
    • Note the value (e.g., 250 W)
  2. Turn on Device

    • Turn on device to be tested
    • Wait 5-10 seconds
  3. Read Power

    • Look at current power again
    • Difference is device consumption

Example:

Before turning on: 250 W
After turning on: 2,250 W
→ Kettle consumes 2,000 W

Finding Standby Consumption

This is how to find secret power guzzlers:

  1. Measure at Night

    • When everyone's asleep and nothing's running
    • Look at current power
  2. Target value: 20-50 W is normal

    • Refrigerator, router, standby devices
  3. Too high? (>100 W)

    • Turn off devices one by one
    • Find culprit

Setting Consumption Goals

Use historical data to set goals:

  1. Determine Baseline

    • Look at average consumption of last months
  2. Define Goal

    • E.g., 10% reduction
  3. Monitor

    • Compare current values with goal
    • Adjust your behavior

Exporting Data

You can export your consumption data:

  1. In the App

    • Go to settings
    • Select "Export Data"
  2. Choose Format

    • CSV for Excel/spreadsheet
    • PDF for reports
  3. Choose Period

    • Last month
    • Last year
    • Custom
  4. Export

    • Send by email
    • Save to cloud
    • Save locally

Additional Possibilities

Smart Home Integration

Use your consumption data for automations:

Notifications

Set up notifications:

  • For unusually high consumption
  • When exceeding thresholds
  • Daily/weekly summaries

Frequently Asked Questions

Why does power fluctuate so much?

This is normal! Electrical devices turn on and off, causing fluctuations.

Does meter reading match my physical meter?

Yes, meter reading should be identical. Small deviations (less than 0.1 kWh) are normal.

Why is my night consumption so high?

Check standby devices, refrigerator efficiency, and secret power guzzlers.

How accurate is the data?

Data is read directly from meter and is very accurate (±1%).
